It is difficult for me to believe, but winter break will be here sooner than we think. This is a time for all of us to relax and spend time with our families. I hope you all enjoy this time together.
Even during time away from school, students can engage in some activities to maintain their improved communication skills. Be sure to remind your children that they can utilize the links on the “Games and Activities” page to practice their speech sounds, or to work on grammar, listening skills, and vocabulary
If your child is working on improving a speech sound (/r/, /s/, /th/, /l/, /sh/, etc.), try some of these brief activities:
*Name all of your family members, pets, and friends who have your sound in their names
*Count to 50. Pay special attention to the numbers that have your sound in them.
*Name 5 things that children like to play at recess that contain your sound.
*Name 5 foods that people eat for breakfast or lunch that contain your sound.
*Name 5 movies that have your sound in them.
*Name 10 things in your bedroom or kitchen that have your sound in them.
If your child is working on improving expressive language skills, try these activities:
*Retell a story that you’ve read together (maybe a favorite holiday story), or a movie that you see over winter break.
*Explain how to make a favorite holiday recipe.
*Explain how to wrap a present
*Explain how to build a snowman.
I am looking forward to a busy, productive December, and will be ready to see all of my students again seeing everyone again in 2015!
