The past two months have gone by amazingly fast! I have enjoyed working with all of my students this year, and look forward to continuing with many of my current students in the fall.
In previous years, I've provided families with home reinforcement activity packets to use with students over the summer. This year, I've revised the packets entirely and in the interest of saving paper, I've decided to provide them to families via email. This will allow you to browse the packet and choose to print the activities you want to complete with your child. It is helpful for all students to spend at least a little time reinforcing learned skills throughout the summer months. Summer activities are filled with opportunities for enriching language skills. Plan to spend lots of time talking together, and reading with each other.
Use the summer practice materials as a starting point. The daily calendars are the simplest way to incorporate daily practice. For those students who are working on speech sound production, the word lists (included at the end of the speech sound practice packet) and the accompanying instructions for how to use them are great ways to incorporate some more specific speech sound practice. Don’t forget my website! Click on “Games and Activities”. There are a variety of links to appropriate practice activities for students who are working on a variety of speech and/or language skills. It is important to remember that these activities are best practiced with an adult. Students who are working to improve speech sounds need to remember that the activities need to be practiced aloud! Otherwise, they’re just playing games and not really working on their speech sounds.
There are many ways to facilitate good speech and language skills as you go about your daily routines. Take advantage of them!
Best wishes for a relaxing summer!
