I’ve made some additions to the site today. Please click on ‘Communication Club News’ for information regarding the topic of ‘semantics’, as well as some suggestions for addressing semantic skills in the home setting. I hope that you find this information to be helpful. Each month I will post similar information pertaining to various topics. Future topics will include syntax, phonemic awareness, specific word finding, social communication skills, and the IEP process.
A number of students who have been working on speech sounds have received home practice assignments to reinforce skills. I only assign practice assignments when I am completely confident that students are able to produce the sound with a high degree of accuracy in the given assignment. I will not assign home practice to students who are not yet consistent in their sound production, or who need a high degree of feedback. I constantly remind the students that the most important part of any home practice exercise is the oral practice component. If they don’t practice aloud, they won’t improve! If your student does receive a home practice assignment from me, please be sure to sign it so that I know it was completed aloud, and with an adult to listen and encourage.
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. :)
